Windows Monthly Update: July–August 2025 Brings Major Improvements
The Windows Monthly Update for July–August 2025 introduces a range of productivity, security, and update management improvements based on user feedback. With enhanced media, cloud-native capabilities, and powerful tools for enterprise IT, Microsoft continues its mission to make Windows easier to deploy, manage, and secure.
Hotpatching and Recovery Tools Now Generally Available
Hotpatching is now generally available for both Windows 11 24H2 Arm64 devices and Windows Server 2025 for on-premises and hybrid setups. This feature ensures faster compliance and reduces system downtime by applying updates without rebooting.
Another highlight is the Quick Machine Recovery tool. Built into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), it now detects and resolves widespread issues automatically. This system recovery method is fully customizable using Intune’s Settings Catalog UI and gives users a fresh, redesigned recovery interface during unexpected restarts.
Improvements in Update and Device Management
Windows Autopatch Groups simplify Windows 11 migration through phased rollouts and detailed readiness insights. Alongside this, Microsoft Connected Cache is now available to enterprise and education organizations to save bandwidth during updates, app installs, and provisioning tasks.
Updated installation media, starting from June 2025, now includes the latest versions of Windows built-in apps. These reduce post-install interruptions and keep systems current from the start.

Security Updates and Copilot Integration
Microsoft continues to focus on enhancing Zero Trust security frameworks. Security Copilot in Microsoft Intune and Entra is now generally available. These tools integrate seamlessly into modern security strategies.
Admins can now reduce high-privilege access (HPA) to tighten control over user permissions, ensuring that apps and users only get necessary access.
Windows Autopilot also benefits from hybrid domain join capabilities. With the Intune Connector for Active Directory, devices can join an on-premises domain during provisioning, then register with Microsoft Entra once the user signs in.
Productivity and Feature Enhancements in Windows 11 24H2
Windows 11 24H2 introduces new features for users and IT admins alike:
- Taskbar: Automatically resizes icons to fit more apps when space is limited.
- Settings Homepage: New enterprise-focused layout for managed devices.
- Sharing Experience: Shared links and content now show visual previews.
- Accessibility: Redesigned menu includes detailed descriptions of tools like Narrator and Voice Access.
The July 2025 optional preview update kicks off gradual deployment of Start Menu enhancements, including a policy for Start menu pinning that applies only on first sign-in, allowing personalization thereafter.
Lifecycle Milestones:
Windows 10 EOS is just three months away. Version 22H2 reaches end of servicing on October 14, 2025, and version 23H2 (Home/Pro) ends November 11, 2025. Windows 11 version 24H2 introduces JScript9Legacy for improved scripting performance and security.
