U.S. President Donald Trump has created a task force to oversee preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The announcement, made on August 5, 2025, marks an important step in ensuring the event will be “safe, seamless, and historically successful,” according to Trump.
The 2028 Summer Games, which will be the first Olympic event held in the U.S. since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, are rapidly approaching. Trump praised the event, saying, “The LA Olympics is shaping up to be a wonderful moment for America. It’s going to be incredible.”
Task Force to Handle Key Aspects of the Event
The newly-formed task force will work on several important areas, including security, visa processes, and transportation logistics, ensuring everything runs smoothly for athletes and spectators alike. The team will coordinate efforts across federal, state, and local agencies to prepare for one of the world’s most significant sporting events.
Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are among the members of the task force, as announced by Trump.
Aiming for a Global Sporting Spectacle
With under three years until the Olympics begin, the task force is focused on delivering the biggest and best Games. Casey Wasserman, president of LA28, emphasized the importance of the task force, stating it marks a significant step in preparations. He added, “We are committed to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen.”
Trump also praised the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), particularly Gene Sykes, for their commitment to maintaining fairness in sports, especially regarding the inclusion of transgender athletes.
Looking Ahead: 2028 and 2026 Global Events
The LA 2028 Olympics will be a pivotal moment for the United States, showcasing its leadership in organizing world-class sporting events. Trump also mentioned his excitement for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, as another major event under his administration’s watch.
