Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Aura Editions: A New Approach to Business Laptops

Lenovo is a leading name in the PC market, and its presence at CES is always notable. This year, Lenovo unveiled a fresh approach to its iconic ThinkPad X1 series, which includes the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1. Instead of focusing solely on making the laptops lighter, Lenovo prioritized durability and repairability without compromising performance.

Powerful New Internals and AI Features

Both the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Gen 14) and the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1 (Gen 11) are powered by Intel’s latest silicon. These models feature Intel Core Ultra X7 Series 3 chips, with up to 12-core processing and Intel’s new Arc GPU. The performance boost is significant, especially with the addition of PCIe Gen5 storage and the latest memory technology.

AI features are also incorporated, with both laptops offering Lenovo’s Copilot+ PC status tool, as well as the new Aura Edition features. The X1 Carbon boasts a larger haptic touchpad, while the X1 2-in-1 gets a redesigned active pen that charges via magnetic docking. Additionally, both laptops are equipped with multiple ports, including three Thunderbolt 4 ports, and optional NFC and 5G cellular connectivity.

Enhanced Durability and Easy Repairs

While the X1 Carbon has always been known for its sleek design, Lenovo’s new “Space Frame” design is what truly sets this year’s models apart. Instead of continuing the trend of making the laptop thinner, Lenovo re-engineered the internals for better cooling and heat dissipation. This results in improved sustained performance, making the laptops more powerful during extended use.

Most impressively, the new design enhances repairability. Lenovo focused on making it easier to access and replace key components, including USB ports, battery, keyboard, speakers, and fans. This innovation led to a remarkable 9/10 repairability score for both models from iFixit — a significant improvement over the Apple MacBook Pro 14, which only earned a 4/10.

The Future of Business Laptops

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Aura Editions are now among the most repairable business laptops available. With their robust construction, cutting-edge performance, and focus on sustainability, these devices could be ideal for professionals in 2026 and beyond. The improved design ensures that business users no longer have to choose between durability, power, and repairability.
